Children & Youth Worker/Volunteer Guidelines
All staff and volunteers age 18 and older are required to undergo a criminal background check before working or volunteering with our children and youth.
All staff and volunteers who work with children and youth will observe the "two-person rule" requiring that no staff person or volunteer will be alone at any time with a child under the age of 13.
If circumstances arise in which the "two-person rule" cannot be followed the "open door rule" will be followed requiring that the door to the room in which the children or youth activity is taking place will be kept open. This includes when a child requires assistance to use the restroom - the restroom stall door and exterior door will remain open.
Volunteers and staff will not leave a child under age 10 unsupervised and will not release a child under age 10 from their care to anyone except the authorized parent or guardian unless the authorized parent or guardian gives prior written approval.
Volunteers and staff may not, under any circumstances, discipline a child or youth by use of physical punishment. Children or youth may be restrained if they are in danger of hurting themselves or others. In such circumstanes, parents or guardians will be immediately contacted.
Harvest staff and voluntters will seek to create a safe and nurturing environment in which children of all ages can develop a growing relatioship with Jesus Christ.
